Who would I vote for to be president and, why

This year is the first time in American history that the United States has had an African American run for the president of the United States. This is probley one of the most heated debates I have ever seen in my life. It’s also the first time we have had a women running for the vice president spot. So there are a lot of news in this year election but only 1 can earn my vote, my vote would go for (D) Barrok Obama. There are a few reasons why but there are manly two big ones that I don’t think people look at. The republics have been running this nation for 8 years and not a lot of good has come from it so I think that we need to switch it up and have a democratic be the president. Also I think McCain isn’t up for being president. I believe that he went out and got a female V.P so that he could get more attention from the media and also out of desperation. Now to the main politics of this campaign.

Obama has a very good plan for the American people I believe like the tax cuts for middle and lower class families. Unlike McCain who has tax cuts for seniors and some of the wealthy. Also helping the spending amount in the untied states he would stop having us spend money on countries that don’t like us and try to keep jobs over here and have offshore drilling to get are own resources. Also his plans to jumpstart the economy are great with the 50billon dollar plan would save over a million American jobs. By rewarding companies that support Americans working on United States soil also by not taxing the companies that due have other companies over seas. Also how he is supporting smaller business with getting started and creating 5milloin green jobs for the United States people. A really big 1 for me is allowing abortion but only in the first 3 months I think that they should be able to have the choice of if they want to keep the child or not. The biggest thing for me is the war on Iraq and how he thinks it was wrong. We have lost over a thousand people over there we have had 620,000 people go on multiple tours over there. I think that going over there was wrong and so does obama so I have faith that he will get are troops out of their.

McCain also has some very good plans which are good ideas for the united states people just that he has been supporting the war is the biggest reason I would not vote for him. I have an uncle over there for his 3rd tour which is just 1 to many for me. We all are at home stressing for him to come home safely which just adds to much stress for are lives here. Also some of the plans he has for this country just would not work for us. I think it is time we put a democratic in the president seat.

I would be an undecided voter the reason I am undecided is because I agree and disagree with both candidates. These are the reasons I am undecided.
I think that McCain’s energy plan would be better if it works out the way he says it will. His idea is basically offering rewards to companies who come up with “green technologies” such as electric cars, wind, and solar power to jump start our economy. There are two things that I have a hard time agreeing with about McCain’s energy plan. The first is his support of Flex Fuel Vehicles (FFV) these types of vehicles I feel are just another version of the same oil problems we have been having and don’t provide a good solution to our energy problem. The second thing I disagree with is nuclear power plants. Although this method provides large amounts of power it also produces toxic waste and I think that there are better ways of producing our energy.
In Obama’s energy plan some things in his energy plan seem more direct for example he says he wants to “Put 1 million Plug-In Hybrid cars -- cars that can get up to 150 miles per gallon -- on the road by 2015” were as McCain’s plan is kind of vague. This makes me think that Obama might follow through with his plans more than McCain would because he is giving more precise information. Obama also has a “New $7,000 Tax Credit for Purchasing Advanced Vehicles”. McCain has a $5,000 tax credit for the same issue.
Voting for one of these candidates would be very difficult for me there are a lot of conflicting opinions that I have with both candidates. One of the reasons I have such a hard time deciding is because I usually side with the Republicans but in the past 8 years we have had Republicans in office and they have not done a good job in my opinion and many other Americans probably agree with me. That makes me think If the Republicans did a bad job two terms in a row than maybe its time for a Democrat to be in office. If McCain wants my vote he would have to convince me that his direction is drastically different than the direction we have been going.

Critical Response: “Who Would You Vote For President?”

Barack Obama I believe would be the best choice to make as president for these reasons: first, He will be helping the low and middle class with fewer taxes, “Families making more than $250,000 will pay either the same or lower tax rates than they paid in the 1990s.”; second, Obama will reform NCLB (No Child Left Behind) in education. Also making math and science a national priority; third, Obama will create 5 million new jobs and lower the taxes on small businesses so they can hire more employees.

“Obama will ask the wealthiest 2% of families to give back a portion of the tax cuts they have received over the past eight years to ensure we are restoring fairness and returning to fiscal responsibility.” No family will be paying close to higher taxes than how it was back in the 1990’s. The rates would be about 39 percent lower than how Bush put out the 2001 tax cut, giving a lot of money back to the American people.

“Obama’s plan will cut taxes overall, reducing revenues to below the levels that prevailed under Ronald Reagan (less than 18.2 percent of GDP).” The Obama tax plan is a net tax cut – he will give relief to middle class families is larger than revenue by changing taxes on families with over $250,000. This couples with his commitment to take away unnecessary spending for the government, and Obama will pay for this tax relief while bringing down the budget deficit that America currently has.

“Obama and Biden will reform NCLB, which starts by funding the law. Obama and Biden believe teachers should not be forced to spend the academic year preparing students to fill in bubbles on standardized tests.” Obama and Biden will improve the assessments that are used to watch student progress to make sure they are ready for college and being in the workplace to improve student learning in a timely, unique manner. They will also improve the NCLB accountability system so that the schools using that will be supported when improvement is needed, rather than draging them down and making the school worse, and less education for the students.

“Obama and Biden will recruit math and science degree graduates to the teaching profession and will support efforts to help these teachers learn from professionals in the field.” They will be working to make sure that all students have access to a solid science and math curriculum at any grade level they are currently, and will be at.

“Barack Obama and Joe Biden will eliminate all capital gains taxes on start-up and small businesses to encourage innovation and job creation.” Obama and Biden will be supporting small business owners by providing a $500 “Making Work Pay” tax credit to almost every worker in America. Small business owners and self-employed people will pay both the employer and the employee side of the payroll tax, this measure will lower the burden of double taxation that we currently have.
I believe that Barack Obama will be the best candidate for president, and Joe Biden as his vice president. They will be doing good things for America, and getting us back on track where America needs to be. We are in a crisis right now, and we need change, we need someone to fix the economy soon, if not. We will be even deeper in than we already are now, owing way to much money to other countries from borrowing from them all the time.

Rikki Rapp said...

The race for presidency to me hasn’t been up to par. Both candidates say that they are going to change this and fix that and help them but not them. I mean personally I wouldn’t vote for either of them. Neither of them has shown me that they want to fix exactly what we need to be fixed in our economy. I would have voted for Senator Obama if and only if he had Hilary Clinton and his running mate. I will vote for McCain, only because he seems to have a better grasp on our economy then Senator Obama.

I think McCain will make a good president for these reasons: 1. He has an economic plan that will create millions of good American jobs. 2. His economic plan will help stimulate the American economy and make it to where we won’t have to count on foreign countries for oil and fuel. 3. He also wants to get the government's budget and spending practices in order, and bring relief to American consumers.

One of his economic plans is to modernize the nation’s labor laws so that they allow for more flexible scheduling arrangements. To make healthcare more portable so workers don’t lose benefits when they switch jobs. Providing workers with more choice in job training assistance so that they can build the skills they need for new and better jobs. Ensuring that the nation’s labor laws don’t get in the way of working at home and workers can choose their own retirement plan.

Senator McCain will commit our country to expanding domestic oil and natural gas exploration. There is trillions of dollars worth of oil and gas reserves in the U.S. He believes in promoting and expanding the use of our domestic supplies of oil and natural gas when people are hurting, and struggling to afford gasoline.

His government budget plan is to make reasonable economic growth. Also, bring the budget to a balance and make tough proposals on choices and new spending. And last, bi-partisan efforts will be the key to undoing the recent spending binge.

In conclusion to me Senator McCain would be a good choice for president, but, like I said before if Obama would have had Hilary Clinton as his running mate there would have been no doubt in my mind I would have picked him. She’s been in the white house and knows how everything works.

Christopher McDonald said...

I sorta agree with Rikki, as an undecided voter I only want what's best for the country, not for the political sides

The presidential election is one of the most important issues in America right now. I am undecided for the election, and I don't really know whom to choose.
Barack Obama, from the democratic side, is trying to make the lower and middle classes able to live on without struggle. "The cost of our debt is one of the fastest growing expenses in the federal budget. This rising debt is a hidden domestic enemy, robbing our cities and states of critical investments in infrastructure like bridges, ports, and levees; robbing our families and our children of critical investments in education and health care reform; robbing our seniors of the retirement and health security they have counted on ... If Washington were serious about honest tax relief in this country, we'd see an effort to reduce our national debt by returning to responsible fiscal policies."; while this might be good for the middle class, it will cut into the upper class's profits, which will make them unhappy for the idea of Barack Obama for president.
John McCain, from the republican side, is trying to keep taxes where there are at; while this may stimulate businesses, it's also just the same thing as what we have for the last eight years.
Obama is leading the natural resources revolution. He is trying to remove the ties for us of natural gas and switch us to electricity; while this is better for the environment, it is also forcing us to move into electricity studies fast.
McCain on the other hand, is trying to make us offshore drill. "In recent days I have set before the American people an energy plan, the Lexington Project -- named for the town where Americans asserted their independence once before. And let it begin today with this commitment: In a world of hostile and unstable suppliers of oil, this nation will achieve strategic independence by 2025.";while this might be all well for gas prices to drop substantially, but it would also ruin our beaches and kill wildlife that isn't anywhere else.
Both Obama and McCain are qualified candidates for the right as president.
Obama has been a leader in leading a good and honest election. "I am in this race to tell the corporate lobbyists that their days of setting the agenda in Washington are over. I have done more than any other candidate in this race to take on lobbyists — and won. They have not funded my campaign, they will not run my White House, and they will not drown out the voices of the American people when I am president."
For McCain, he is a POW that knows what he is doing. "Earmarked dollars have doubled just since 2000, and more than tripled in the last 10 years. This explosion in earmarks led one lobbyist to deride the appropriations committees as favor factories. The time for us to fix this broken process is long overdue."
I am undecided because both candidates are fairly equal when it comes to issues. The thing that would make me vote for one over the other is that if one of them would forget about trying to win for their side, and try to fix America as a unionized country.

Out of the two presidential candidates I would vote for John McCain. In my opinion he has better plans to bring up the economy, stop the war in Iraq more successfully and has an overall better future planned for America.
There are a few reasons I think John McCain would be better. First of all, being in the economic situation we are in I think it would be right to choose the candidate that has the best plan for economic success. My opinion is that McCain’s plan is better. McCain plans to stop our dependence on oil from foreign countries which will eventually lower the price of gas. Also McCain has a plan that will keep 200,000 - 400,000 families from losing there homes. This plan states that any individual can apply for a home loan and the FHA HOME office will decide if you are eligible.
Also I believe that drilling on the continental shelf for oil is a good idea. This is a plan of McCain. I know that it will take a toll on the environment but it will eventually lower the price of gas which is something the American people need. I’m also sure that if we put some effort into it we could drill oil on the continental shelf without too much damage done.
Another issue I think is important is the war in Iraq. McCain’s overall plan for Iraq is to withdrawal troops once Iraq has established a steady government. Obama states that we should immediately start withdrawing troops. I think this would be the worst thing we could do because we have already spent 2.7 trillion $’s on this war so I think the right thing to do would be finish the cause. I’d rather we put more money into the war and finish it correctly than leave abruptly and waste the time, money, and lives we have already spent on it.
McCain also has a sufficient plan for better sources of energy. As of right now nuclear power plants provide 20% of our energy. McCain plans to construct 45 new power plants by 2030. This will provide a huge amount of energy and also begin to stop of dependence on foreign suppliers of energy.
In conclusion I think that both candidates have good and bad ideas. But overall I think that McCain has a better plan for America’s future. He will lead us to economic success; fix the problems with Iraq, and fight to find new, sufficient forms of energy. He is the kind of president America needs.

Blake, I'm going to be agreeing with Tanner on that fact. I think that if someone is raped, and caused to be pregnant from that. Then they should be able to have an abortion. I think that it would be very hard on the woman to bear with all of that. Dealing with what she had happend to her before she was pregnant and then giving birth to that persons kid. There needs to be some kind of line with abortion, and getting an abortion because someone made a dumb mistake and trying to cover it up.

jason hancock said...

I agree with both tanner and blake. I dont think that abortion should be something that is used alot. I wish it would never be used. But I do think that there are people such as rape victims that should have a choice as long as its in the first three months at least. But I think that overall abortion is not a good idea.

For me the race for president is a very endearing event, one which I have watched closely since the primaries, earlier even. There are so many issues which correlate to me and therefore each candidates policies have certain ways of catering to what I believe and what I want. Overall if I were able to vote, I would vote for Senator Barrack Obama.
For starters I really like Senator Obama’s stance on healthcare in the U.S. Because healthcare is an issue that really hits home for me because of my family, I have to watch carefully each candidate’s stance on healthcare. From his own website a well as CNN and FoxNews Senator Obama’s stance on Healthcare is fair and clear. Senator Obama wants to implement a plan for effective affordable healthcare by strengthening employer coverage, and making sure insurance companies are accountable as well as ensuring doctor choice without government interference. Healthcare is an issue that hits home hard for me because my mother is constantly in and out of the doctors office and pharmacy. For me it is absolutely essential that this country hashes out an effective healthcare plan that covers all Americans equally where Insurance companies and a lack thereof can hinder a person from getting even the most basic healthcare.
The second issue that is very critical to me is the candidates stance on the War in Iraq. Senator Obama wants to gradually reduce our number of troops in Iraq with an eventual pull out. Furthermore, Senator Obama wants to take all the troops and material diverted to Iraq and redirect them to the resurgent war in Afghanistan. For me, as a soldier in the National Guard, a component of the Army, going to war is very real for me. However, if I had the choice I would rather serve in Afghanistan than Iraq. Or, all together if Obama ended the war I would be equally satisfied as risking my life in general is not as appealing as not. Overall the war in Iraq is an issue that is very sensitive for me personally as it may or may not be a part of my future.
The third issue that appeals to me is the economy. As a young man posed to go out into the world and try to make a living the economy is at a very poor position right now to try to do anything. Furthermore, for someone who wants to live off of stock investments… the stock market being at its lowest since the Great depression is not a good thing to come to terms with. Senator Obama wants to jumpstart the economy with $50 Billion and prevent millions of Americans from losing their jobs. Furthermore he wants to give tax breaks to working class middle class Americans and simplify the tax filing process for middle class people. For me who’s going to emerge into the world and try to make my way, the economy is not posed to do well.
In conclusion, I would vote for Senator Obama, I like his policies much more that Senator McCain’s. Senator Obama is posed on all the critical issues in a way that I prefer and appeals to me.

This year presidential candidates have two very different ideas for this country, but both with the same intents, to save our country from certain demise meaning that our economy has fallen and neither of them want it to go any deeper in depression. Barack Obama’s idea is to spread wealth, taking money from wealthier people and transferring it around to the less fortunate, where as John McCain’s is to help people get started and lowering the taxes for everyone, making it able to own your business or have your own life without spending so much money for taxes, when you should be expanding and hiring staff.
Obamas idea isn’t the greatest for our country with the ideas, but McCain isn’t really a change from Bush, either one I would say hasn’t really proven them selves to me in any way. I think McCain isn’t up for being president. I believe that he went out and got a female V.P so that he could get more attention from the media and since Obama is black maybe he could get more votes from females. This year of voting is all about popularity not priorities, people need to listen to the people and not stereotype them. McCain has a sufficient plan for better sources of energy. As of right now nuclear power plants provide 20% of our energy. McCain plans to construct 45 new power plants by 2030. This will provide a large amount of energy and also begin to stop of dependence on foreign suppliers of energy. Obama has, as well, a good idea for energy and fuel, wind turbines, non gas hogging cars, and sufficient product transporting.
This year’s candidates are both not great, but if I had to pick one it would be McCain, he’s got more experience in politics and Obama doesn’t seem ready.

Election

Life is all about the choices your make, some choices are harder than others, but in the end it all comes down to a yes or no. The Presidential election is just another choice in a life that’s filled with them, but still without the publics opinion the government would run ramped, so we regulate it by choosing who we feel fit to be in power. This time around the election is difficult to decide on who is fit for the Presidency, both candidates have similar, and very contradictive views on what should be done with the economy, energy crisis, and Iraq.
Both candidates believe their must be a mass tax cut in the American populace, but where the tax cut is administered is where Obama and McCain differentiate. Obama believes that America needs …return to fairness and to fiscal responsibility... (Obama Biden) Obama is going to make America return to fairness and responsibility by lowering taxes for everyone who has an annul salary of 250,000 or lower. McCain on the other hand believes in a “trickling down” effect which involves cutting taxes for big business, this, McCain thinks, will stimulate jobs and the money will “trickle down” to the poor classes.
Another issue to consider is the energy crises and the dependence on foreign oil. Obama thinks we should use what we already have, but use it wisely. He wants to institute a “use it or lose it” policy which “…require oil companies to develop the 68 million acres of land (over 40 million of which are offshore) which they have already leased and are not drilling on…”(Obama). Obama says he’ll use that oil responsibly by raising the tax credits for buying a hybrid, raising the fuel economy standards, and using more “green” fuels consequently lowering the carbon emissions in America. McCain on thinks we should stop expand off shore drilling and use the trillions of dollars of oil reserves we have here in America instead of spending hundreds of billions of dollars in foreign trade. McCain also has various other plans for fuel economy and alternative energy resources such as “John McCain's Clean Car Challenge” (McCain) which will give a five thousand dollar tax credit to people who buy a zero carbon admissions car and “John McCain Will Commit $2 Billion Annually To Advancing Clean Coal Technologies.”
The last issue that would come to mind is the issue of Iraq. Obama plans to reduce the troop level to a minimal force and they would combat terrorism within one or two years. McCain in the opposite field plans to leave troop levels the same until the Iraq government can hold itself up. The troops there will also be vital if Iran does decide to use military force against the US.
Ultimately not one issue will sway my vote; it is all the about the morals of the candidate. Will the candidate make the choice I would make if I were in that situation? In the end it’s up to you don’t listen to the commercials all of that is just a big propaganda piece, and they’ll tell you what ever they think will get your vote. If you really care, and think your vote actually matters do the research and make the right decision yourself.

If there were a presidential election today, I would vote for Senator John McCain. I believe he would make an excellent president for four reasons: first, he will help the United States experience economic growth; second, he will help the U.S. be independent from foreign sources of oil; third, he will make health care more accessible to more Americans; and fourth, he will end the war in Iraq with victory and bring our troops home with honor.
McCain proposes to bring economic growth by reducing the corporate tax rate, lowering the rate on capital gains, allowing business more deductions, and eliminating tax loopholes. He will also end corporate welfare, spur innovation, and encourage companies to keep jobs in the United States.
I believe that his energy plan -- the Lexington Project -- will lower the price of gas while utilizing every energy source to move us toward energy independence. In his plan he states that we need to develop advanced alternative energy sources while developing existing energy sources by drilling offshore, expanding nuclear power and encouraging clean coal technologies.
His health care plans include giving American families more say in their choice of health plans, providing walk-in-clinics as alternatives to emergency room care, and encouraging competition in the prescription drug market.
McCain knows on a personal basis how terrible the costs of war are. I believe he will make careful and wise decisions to finish the war. He understands that immediate withdrawal in Iraq could draw us into a wider war with even greater sacrifices, and put peace further out of reach.
I feel that John McCain has the experience it will take to bring the United States out of the current economic crisis. His energy and health plans are reasonable and will work. He will lead our nation out of war. I cast my vote for Senator John McCain.

Election Day of 2008 is a day that can and will change the lives of all Americans, rich, poor, young, or old. The two candidates, John McCain and Barack Obama, have different views on how to make our country a better place by cutting taxes, researching new energy methods, and repairing the economy. However, only one candidate successfully reaches out to all types of voters. Senator Barack Obama, the Democratic candidate, has won my vote with his plan to cut taxes for the majority of Americans, improve the environment with energy research, and restore the failing economy.
To begin, Obama has hit the nail on the head with tax cuts for the middle class. With 95% of America making less than $250,000 a month, it makes sense that tax cuts will only make situations better for our country. With less taxes being taken out of workers’ paychecks, bills will be easier to pay, families will be able to buy groceries, and buying gas won’t be as much of a bother. Obama’s plan will also cut taxes for families who plan on sending a child to college, the uninsured, those trying to save money for a new home, and homeowners in general. Although families making more than $250,000 will have some tax increases, they will not pay more than what they paid in the 1990s. In actuality, rates will be “39 percent lower than what President Bush proposed in his 2001 tax cut.” (http://www.barackobama.com/taxes/). Obama aims to help all citizens of America, even those who are wealthy.
Not only does Obama want to help Americans, but he also wants to help the environment. Obama plans to “reduce greenhouse gas emissions 80 percent by 2050.”( http://my.barackobama.com/page/content/newenergy) Also, he wants to increase the amount of electricity used by renewable resources. Research of new methods will also create 5 million jobs. In regards to oil and natural gas, Obama wants oil companies to use the 68 million acres that they have available to them for drilling instead of looking for more land. This would conserve land that includes many animal habitats, and it would reduce our dependency on foreign oils. Additionally, Obama wants to put 1 million American made plug-in hybrid cars by 2015. Fuel economy standards will be raised, and a low carbon fuel standard will be put into place. With Obama in office, our environment will benefit as well.
Finally, Obama’s plan will help bring the economy back up from the slump it’s currently in. In addition to tax breaks, Obama wants to provide an “Emergency Energy Rebate to American familes.”(http://www.barackobama.com/issues/economy/) This rebate of $1,000 will help families pay bills or fill up their gas tanks. Also, he wants to provide $50 billion to jumpstart the economy. Half of it would go to a State Growth Fund to prevent cuts in health, housing, or education assistance, and the other half would go to a Jobs and Growth Fund to prevent cuts from bridge and school maintenance, which would cut 1 million jobs. As stated earlier, researching new energy methods will create new jobs. Obama plans to invest $150 billion over 10 years for this research. Job training will be provided for workers so they can be successful in this field. Should Obama become president, our country and its citizens will thrive.
November 4th, 2008 is a day that may very well change the wellbeing of our country and our future. Both John McCain and Barack Obama each have their own plans on how to better the country through tax cuts, energy research, and economy repairs. However, Obama definitely has the upper hand in regards to reaching out to more Americans. This Demcocrat plans on cutting taxes for the middle class Americans, researching cleaner energy while conserving the environment, and picking up the economy by saving jobs and providing short term relief. Obama is looking out for every person in America, from the average working stiff to the small business owner. Clearly, Obama is the prime candidate for positive change in our country.

In responce to Rikki Rapp's post:

In your essay you said that McCain will use the trillions of dollars of oil that we have in America, my question is do you believe that personally? If we were to use those reserves, what will we do afterwards? We would be at the mercy of other counties and then what would stop them from having a monopoly on oil. Even worse, what would happen if other countries lets say, any of the middle east counties, stopped selling oil to the US, what would happen then, we would be totally out of any military force; abroad at least.
What do you think?

Heather Johnson said...

Jason, I'd have to disagree with your support of McCain. I don't believe that offshore drilling is the right move in regards to reducing our dependence on foreign oil. You say that you don't mind the toll on the environment, as long as gas prices go down. If McCain really wanted to lower our prices, he'd make oil companies use the land that they already have available to them instead of drilling in animal habitats. 68 MILLION acres is a lot to go to waste. Clearly, McCain is all about profit without care of how he gets it.

Also, to those who disagree with abortion: How would you feel if you (as a female) or your wife or girlfriend was raped and became pregnant? Would you want to carry the child conceived by a sexual offense? I think not.

Barack Obama is a great and influential presidential candidate, and I think he will be elected as president for many reasons such as: His policy on the Iraqi war will hopefully end the war and result in withdrawing our troops from Iraq, also his plan to give tax breaks to 95% of the middle class population will help the economy greatly considering the majority of the United States’ population is middle and lower class, And I support his opinion on women, abortion and their right to choose, his economic plan will help our economy grow after the rut we are in because of the debt wall street has put us in, and finally his approach on education and early learning.

Obama believe that we are not holding the Iraqi government accountable for what is currently happening in their country. I personally believe that as well.
The war in Iraq is costing us billions of dollars and the lives of our troops. Obama's approach to the situation in Iraq is to withdrawal our troops from the country and end the war as soon as possible, but of course it will take a significant amount of time to do that, because we would have to semi-finish what we have started so we don't leave pointlessly.
The reason Obama wants the war their to stop, is because it is going no where anytime soon, and if we stay in Iraq we will most likely be in that country for plenty more years to come. It has already lasted for about eight years, now's about the right time for it to end.

The plan to give 95% of the middle and lower class American population a tax break is the change that America needs. Obama has approached this the right way with his proposal. Obama believes that we need to stop giving tax breaks to CEO's of major companies, and start caring about the actual American people. Prices of everything have gone up during these past few years, as a result of irresponsibility of the government, Wall Street and the current president.
Obama's plan will help the economy grow immensely because giving tax breaks to the people means the people will have more money, more money means they will be able to afford more, live comfortably and be able to pay off their debt.

Obama's opinion on women and abortion is similar to my opinion as well. I agree with the fact that women should have the right to choose although I do not believe that abortion should be used as a form of birth control. I just believe given the circumstances of a girl who was raped or did not choose to be put in a situation similar to that ends up pregnant she should have a complete right to choose and be able to abort. For example, if a matured 12 years old girl was raped, got pregnant, I do not think that she should be forced to have that child. I do not agree with children raising children.

I believe that it is a great idea for parents to start educating their children at a very young age. To get them ready for grade school, so when they do start school they already know how to read and write. I think that will reduce the amount of dyslexic kids across America. Obama wants to give more funding to head start programs and create more successful early learning institutions.
Obama also wants to enable kids who want to go to college whom their parents cannot afford to send them. He will do that by having the first year of their education free. And it also goes back to his plan on tax breaks, because the more money the families have, the more they can save to be able to send their kid to college.

With that being said, I conclude that Barack Obama will be the great change that America needs. I sincerely hope that he will get elected. I support all his opinions that he has mentioned in his debates and campaign. I agree with him on every approach he has made to the situations currently happening in the United States. America will be headed in the right direction if Obama is elected.

Critical Response: “Who Would You Vote For President?”

If the election took place today I would vote for McCain. Because of his presidential plans.

McCain’s plans sound more appealing to me than Obama’s I think that John McCain will

Make a good

President because his presidential plans don’t only sound good to me but will make the

Unites States progressions grow.

Fact one John McCain will make a grate president because he is ready to pull our troops

Out of Iraq with a “safety shield” and other enemy countries. He is ready to make it safer

For our troops and our people.

Fact two John McCain is ready to cut taxes on large company’s so that they will keep the

Company in the United States and create more jobs for Americans.

Fact three John McCain’s health care system will be nice as well it will be

Cheaper this will allow more Americans to “keep more of their pay check”.

(www. JohnMcCain.com)

Because you can’t have a free health care system like Canada because if the United States

Does that with this many people in the country it will take five years just to get a broken

Arm checked.

Fact four we kneed to expand oil for our energy, which will liberate us from

Foreign control. And if it tares up the world let it. The trees for example we cut them

Down and plant more and we can harvest them again in fifteen or twenty years. But what

Rely matters is that we are free from foreign control.

Heather, i'd have to agree with you i believe that a person should have their right to choose wheather or not to keep a baby under certain circumstances... (I.E. Rape) or other reasons.but a religous person would say that god sent the baby to earth for a reason because if god didnt want the baby on earth he wouldnt have let it happen so there are two standing pints so if you vote for obama, its not like you are required to get abortions you just have the choice as apposed to McCain where abortion is completely illegal. this is america people should be able to choose.

Arm Triangle said...

if i could vote for a president i would vote for Obama because i believe that Obama actually knows what he's talking about and focuses on the facts and issues where as McCain lately has been more focused on Joe the plumber and saying what Obama is doing wrong and how Obama is a bad person. but Obama is not a bad person and he should be president.

collin lowder said...

Yes Mr. Blake I agree that abortion bad and a wrong thing. People say that it isn’t a killing some one just because the heart isn’t beating. It doesn’t mean that it isn’t alive. It takes food from the mother and continues to grow. To deny some one a chance at life if not for us to decide. In my opinion those people that want abortion are like baby killers. I learned what happened to the Jewish babies in the holocaust. Abortionists better rethink their opinions’.

Arm Triangle...I agree with you because basically people aren't going to vote for Obama because of his name, they are calling him "Sinbama", so they think hes a terrorist or something...also I think that McCain wont really get much more accomplished than Bush did (which isn't very much to begin with)..like putting oil factories on the pacific shores....causing more pollution.

also Really if i could vote for the president today it would be Obama, because I think we need a fresh start with this country...because the recent presidents havent done a very good job (Clinton and Bush), and I think McCain would just pick up where they left off. Obama would be a fresh start because its something this country has never had before, an African-American president.

Heather,

"Jason, I'd have to disagree with your support of McCain" I agree, I mean obviously we need to stop being so dependent on oil and find other ways to power things, I believe in 1990, "California's basin, L.A, Orange county, River side, and san Bernardino, was issued 41 stage one smog alerts (stage one Smog alert is called when the ozone, one of the most health damaging components of smog. Exceeds .20pasrts per million)- http://www.sonyclassics.com/whokilledtheelectriccar/electric.html

Z.E.V was born, "Zero emission Vehicle mandate" General motors helped and after. Exxon helped destroy the electric cars all over the world, saying it was to strict, the mandate, but what im getting at is the big gas companies own the U.S right now people with lots of money mean lots of cars and lots of cars means more money in the bank for Gas companies, things like the electric cars being destroyed in the mid 90's to early 2000 have ruined us now for fuel, yes we have hybrids yes we have other ways of saving fuels but if we would have done this earlier and not let gas companies buy out, or ruin these we would have better our selves now. We need a president that will take charge of things for the U.S Fuel problems and stop beating around the bush, and im not sure if either Candidate can do this.

Zack Greggor, when, in your response to Rikki, you said, "We would be at the mercy of other counties and then what would stop them from having a monopoly on oil."

Don’t you think that’s already happened and has been happening? We buy from the Middle East, and at loads of cash a barrel, is odd to me why we do this when there’s oil that we get from Alaska and Wyoming our gas prices are outstandingly high for how close we are to oil mines, maybe it’s a Conspiracy or maybe a coincidence but Something needs to be done. Candidates need to stop thinking about war, and start thinking about our countries living style.

Critical Response: “Who Would You Vote For President?”

Senator Obama would make a good president for many reasons. First his tax change plan, second his health insurance plan, third his education plans, fourth his energy plans, which will both help with the oil crisis and cleaner energy.

The first thing I want to point out is Obama’s tax plans, Obama wants to cut taxes for workers and their families with a tax cut of $500 for workers or $1,000 for working couples that is about %95 of the population of workers. The population that will effect will be for low- and middle-income seniors, homeowners, the uninsured, and families sending a child to college or looking to save and accumulate wealth. In return this will help as many as 40 million middle class families do their own taxes which will take up to 5 minutes at home without the help of an accountant. If you want more information u can go to the following link: http://www.barackobama.com/taxes/

The next point I want to talk about is Obama’s health care plan. For people who already have their own health insurance nothing will change but the cost of your insurance, and that’s not for the bad but for the good, your taxes will go down as much as $2500 per year. But for people without health care Obama wants to make it readily available for anyone, no matter your previous health conditions for an affordable price. If this isn’t enough for you, you can go to the following link for even more great information on health care. http://www.barackobama.com/issues/healthcare/

My third point I want to address is Obama’s Education plans.
Obama wants to reform the NCLB (no child left behind) plan that the bush administration attempted to do. Obama and Biden both believe that teachers should not be forced to teach children and teens how to fill in bubbles on standardized tests, but to improve the assessments to track the progress of students and their readiness for college. For more info go to:
http://www.barackobama.com/issues/education/

Last but not least I would like to address Obama’s energy plan.
One of Obama’s amazing ideas is to have at least 1 million plug-in hybrid cars on the road by 2015. Cars that will be built here in America not over seas. Another plan is to ensure 10 percent of our electricity comes from renewable resources by 2012 and to 25 percent by 2025. For even more information please take the time to read the rest of Obama’s energy plan: http://my.barackobama.com/page/content/newenergy
For my closing I would like to just restate my reason on why Obama wins my vote. Tax cuts for 95% of American workers, cleaner energy and more hybrid cars which makes less pollution and a cheaper economy, cheap health care for family who need it and for people who have conditions were no insurance company will take them. Reform the NCLB plan to make it work, and last but not least his energy plan.

I don’t believe any one person should have to vote for a particular party. Why Republican? Why Democrat? I’m not deciding to be either, but make the choice of my own. Go over the issues for each candidate and make a decision on what I believe is right.
Even if I were old enough to vote in the 2008 election I would vote for Barack Obama
First thing is the similarities and differentiations. Both parties are for tax cuts but where the cuts go are very different. Obama wants tax cuts for the lower to middle class and to small businesses, basically anyone making under $250,000 a year. That’s 95% of the country and I agree with this tax cut. McCain is for giving tax cuts to the upper class and letting large businesses keep more of their money.
Secondly there is the energy crisis. Both candidates agree on no more depending on foreign oils. We need to depend on our government to do it. McCain proposes to search out and find new oil locations for ourselves. I think this is what should be done.
Obama Believes we should stay in America. Land owners having oil beneath their earth either use it or lose it. This is something I don’t agree with, it doesn’t ruin our environment as much but I don’t think it’s as effective. Disagreeing with this one point doesn’t make me for McCain, I want to show what key values I agree with when deciding for the next president.
My third reason is based on Iraq. We’ve been in the war for about 6 years and we’re still there. People have different opinions on this, we should have gone and we shouldn’t have. Obama has made it very clear that he wants out of this war. According to Obama’s page:
Immediately upon taking office, Obama will give his Secretary of Defense and military commanders a new mission in Iraq: ending the war. The removal of our troops will be responsible and phased, directed by military commanders on the ground and done in consultation with the Iraqi government. Military experts believe we can safely redeploy combat brigades from Iraq at a pace of 1 to 2 brigades a month that would remove them in 16 months. That would be the summer of 2010 – more than 7 years after the war began.
This is something I agree with.
This is what McCain’s page says:
John McCain believes it is strategically and morally essential for the United States to support the Government of Iraq to become capable of governing itself and safeguarding its people. He strongly disagrees with those who advocate withdrawing American troops before that has occurred.
I don’t believe in this proposal at all, we’ve been there way to long for all the wrong reasons. Get our troops out slowly and surely. Going over these three facts isn’t enough to show why I fully choose Obama but it’s a small portion why.

I believe that John McCain would make a very good president for this country. I believe this because of many reasons. First of all, because he is a veteran, so I believe that that has prepared him to not crumble under extreme pressure. And I think that he is more qualified to be a president than his opponent.
The reason why I believe that his military background would benefit us as having him as our leader is because if we were attacked by a country, then he would be able to make good military decisions on what to do. And he also knows that we should not just pull all of our troops out of the war that we are in before our goal is accomplished. It would be horrible if so many of our troops lost their lives for no reason. That is how I look at it, and that is how McCain looks at it too. I know that there are countless amounts of families that would love nothing more than to have their loved ones come home, but they have not yet finished the job that they were sent out to do. It would be a lot better for our troops to come home in victory than to come home being cut short of the goal. Another good reason that he should be the president is that he understands that just throwing billions of dollars at companies to come up with new ways of creating energy is not the answer to the energy crises. Down the road that might not be the case, but for know you have too think realistically. We have many places in the U.S. that are perfect for drilling for oil, but we continue to give money to countries in the Middle East that hate us for their oil. McCain plans on using our own natural resources that we have, and that is a plan that I believe can’t go wrong. McCain also believes that improving our schools is a way to help out the economy. That is completely true because if everyone had a good education, then everyone would make good money so then the economic problem would be over.
So in conclusion, if the election took place today, I would vote for McCain. I have only addressed in this paper a small portion of the issues that our country has today. But I believe that McCain would do a better job in addressing these issues in the right way than Obama.

Who would I vote for president?

If the 2008 election took place today I would vote for Senator John McCain; his presidential plan is clearly the direction we need to take the United States. There is no part of his campaign that I do not agree with. There are several reasons that I support Senator McCain, but in the interest of time I would like to go over three main topics of concern: First, how the economy of the country is failing and Senator McCain’s plans to fix it. Second, why the price of oil per barrel is incredibly high and the steps Senator McCain is planning to take to resolve this issue. Third, I would like to explain the health plans of both of the candidates, and explain why I believe Senator McCain's health care plan for America is the better choice.

The economy of the United States is the worst it has been since the great depression and that is scaring a lot of Americans. Wall Street and the stock market are completely unstable and unpredictable. John McCain will put several billions of dollars towards buying up all of the nations over priced home mortgages. I support McCain in his belief that buying up those mortgages will stabilize the economy. A home is the most important thing to an American citizen now a day, it provides more than just a place to stay. Homes provide a sense of protection and security. Foreclosures are happening every day, ruining “Joe the plumber’s” chance to provide a safe for his family. McCain once quoted Chairman Mao when he said, “It’s always darkest before its totally black.”(1)

The price for a gallon of gasoline reached over four dollars a gallon in most places across the U.S. I believe that this is because we, as a country, are relying too much on foreign countries to provide us with fuel. McCain would like to expand our oil drilling here in the United States. Creating more work would also create more jobs for Americans without one, which would help the unemployment rate. Obama’s plan of just using what space we have to drill just won’t be enough, expansion is the only way to solve this issue in my opinion.

Health care plans are the most important to me because I wouldn’t have a family today if we didn’t have as good of health care as we do today. My Father, both of my brothers and all three of my sisters were diagnosed with a type of colon cancer called F.A.P. They all went through surgeries and many treatment sessions. I heard my brother talking about how he would have been bankrupt if he had his surgeries while Obama was in office with his health plan in effect.

I strongly support Senator John McCain for president of the United States of America. He is the only candidate that makes any sense. To lead this nation in the direction we need an experienced leader, born and bread to lead. Obama does not have the experience and devotion that we need. I would vote for John McCain for president.

Morgan Thomas said...

I would like to respond to Snyder's comment about Obama's tax plan.

If Senator Obama gives tax cuts to everyone that makes 250,000 dollars or less a year than what will happen to the big businesses? When the corperations get hit with a higher tax rate I believe that many jobs will either be lost or shipped over seas. We need our jobs to stay here, that's why I believe John McCain is the right choice. He will give tax breaks to the corperations that keep jobs here.

Who I would vote for president
I think Barack Obama would be a better president than John McCain for several reasons. The first is Obama’s economic plan in which he will create new jobs and offer more middle class tax cuts which will help our economy more than McCain’s plan. The second is Obama’s plan for the war in Iraq he will work to responsibly end the war in Iraq and focus more on al Qaeda in Afghanistan and Pakistan to fight the terrorists that attacked us on 9/11.The third is Obama’s health care plan which will provide accessible, affordable coverage for all, and it will reduce health care costs for families.
Obama’s economic plan will help our economy get back on track. He will provide 95% of working Americans with the tax relief needed with tax cuts three times the size of McCain’s. He will eliminate all capital gains taxes on small businesses and people trying to start their businesses to help create more jobs and innovation. John McCain’s economic plan is a lot like George Bush’s plan. It ignores middle class Americans, giving $200 billion in tax cuts to corporations, including $4 billion in tax breaks to Big Oil, while leaving over 100 million middle-class Americans without any tax relief.
When Obama takes office he plans to immediately and successfully end the war in Iraq he will remove our troops responsibly and in phases. He will press Iraq's leaders to take responsibility for their future and to spend the money they make on oil for their own reconstruction. John McCain has no plan to end the war in Iraq, and he would keep spending $10 billion a month in Iraq while the Iraqi government sits on a huge surplus.
Obama’s health care plan will lower health care costs by $2,500 for a typical family. He will provide affordable, accessible health care for all Americans, and will build on the existing healthcare system. While McCain’s health care plan would tax health benefits for the first time ever. Imposing a trillion tax increases on working families and leaving millions of people without heath care.
That is some of the reasons I Believe Barack Obama will make a better president than John McCain.

Barrack Obama for President

Barrack Obama will make a great President for the United States First point is he is Pro-Choice, so he will let us make our own decisions two he wants to cut taxes for the lower class; three he wants to end the Iraq war, which is exactly what America needs right now. And on top of all of this, he wants change.

I think that it’s important for the U.S. to get their troops out of Iraq and McCain has no intentions on getting them out soon, compared to Obama who wants to pull them out as soon as possible, but little by little. And I don’t want this war to keep going on when it seems like we aren’t getting anywhere besides wiping out our military.

Obama said he wanted to give a tax break to all families making under $250,000 per year, which he said was 95 percent of American workers. And raise the upper classes taxes, which from my view is the way that it should go. Especially with the way that the economy is going the poor will lose everything and the rich will only gain more. Obama wants to lower gas prices down to make it easier on everyone’s wallets, and not depend on other countries gas as much. Right now I think that America needs change, and Obama wants to give us change. We need a President that will make the right decisions and ask the Country for their opinion and not just the upper class but all of the classes.

Obama is pro-choice, which in case you were not aware of it means that you can make your own decision on abortion. I don’t think it’s a bad thing to have an abortion; there are accidents and un-wanted babies. It’s important that every American is allowed to make their own decisions, and if you start by taking them away, than there would be no point to our constitutional rights. America is free, so we should be given the chance to be free, and make our own decisions.

I just really believe that Obama can help this country and give us what we need. I think that he would really fight for this country, and it seems like he really wants change. He is basically allowing us to still be free and help make our own decisions. McCain seems like he just wants to control us like robots. I personally think that Obama will make a great president, and he will bring a lot of change to America. And in general he will be a better president for many reasons.

Critical Response:
Barack Obama or John McCain?

As a devout Republican, I willingly choose McCain over Obama, for multiple reasons, such as the fact that he has 26 years of governmental experience versus Obama’s 12. His foreign policies, “… secure long-term peace ‘and’ security ‘and’ establish a stable, prosperous, and democratic state in Iraq that poses no threat to its neighbors and contributes to the defeat of terrorists. When Iraqi forces can safeguard their own country, American troops can return home (http://www.johnmccain.com/Informing/Issues/fdeb03a7-30b0-4ece-8e34-4c7ea83f11d8.htm October 20, 2008).” Versus Obama’s “…we must be as careful getting out of Iraq as we were careless getting in. Immediately upon taking office, Obama will give his Secretary of Defense and military commanders a new mission in Iraq: ending the war. The removal of our troops will be responsible and phased, directed by military commanders on the ground and done in consultation with the Iraqi government (http://www.barackobama.com/issues/iraq/index.php November 17, 2008).”
I strongly believe in the war on terrorism in the Middle East because it is our responsibility as the leading super power to suppress terrorism and terrorist organizations such as Al Qaeda. Where ever there is a group of terrorists that threaten a nation’s freedoms and ways of life it is our responsibility to be there with our advanced forms of tactical superiority and technological warfare. In the end it is our resolve and sheer determination that will win the war on terrorism. If we pull out of the Middle East, again, the terrorists will take it as a sign of weakness, again. Just as in the Gulf War, we will be met by accusations of irresponsibility, and the general signs of the inability to commit to anything we do. The last conflict we actually followed through on was World War II. We backed out in the Korean Conflict, Vietnam War, Gulf War, and now this? My generation is being faced with the biggest Terrorist organization ever to exist, and Obama wants us to back out. This is why I have to vote for John McCain. Not just for the sake of my opinion, But for the sake of safety for families around the world.
Another pressing point is the fact that, as a nation, we are in an energy crisis. Within the next ten years we need advanced breakthroughs in renewable energies, such as hydrogen, solar and tidal. But we also need relief now. Obama refuses to tap into our vast natural oil reserves that lie directly off our shores. McCain will safely drill into our offshore oil reserves and offers an immediate relief to our economy and our energy consumptions, while continuing the funding to advanced renewable energies.
It is for these and many other reasons that I am compelled to responsibly vote for John McCain. Should he be elected I feel that the nation will be under the control of an experienced individual that will not waste time or money on things that are futile, but make the responsible investments for the today and tomorrow America. Safety, Economy, Energy. That is our mission.

First i would just like to say i like where you're going but i fail to understand why you are undecided. It would seam to me that you are leaning towards McCain because his economic policies are better but you dont want to back him on how hes going to improve the economy. Drilling off shore would drasticly improve the economy and decrease our dependancy on forign oil. that means that we would be more selfsustained. All the money that we spend on oil every day could be rediverted to fixing the environment by going "green". A few short years of off shore drilling could add hundreds of years less polution by the united states because the money would be spent on green technology, such as solar, wind, tidal, and hydrogen. think of it as a brief problem with an overall solution.

“Who Would You Vote For President?”

From where I stand, as an average American, in an average American household, I would have voted for Barrack Obama. There are many reasons why I believe he would make an excellent president for our country; He is “The Change We Need”. Not only does he plan on involving everyone to help rebuild our country, he is including the youth. He had founded one of the largest organizations in America, by and for the students. It is called Students for Barrack Obama and it was started with a few students on Facebook, creating a petition for Obama to run for President. I think its amazing that he has included the youth so much in his political campaign. Students and young people have played a larger role in this campaign than any other one in history. He also has a plan to get every child the education they deserve. He, himself, grew up with the opportunity to have an amazing education, and he believes everyone in our country should have the equal chance. As all of us should believe, the youth is the future.

Also, growing up in a home where health insurance is a big deal, I agree with his ideas of making it work for average people and businesses, not just the large companies. His plan is to reduce the costs of health care; that would generally save the typical family up to $2,500. Obama and Biden plan on strengthening the plan of employers. The plan is to lower the cost for businesses by helping them out and covering a portion of the cost. That gives them the money they need to support their employees. My mother and father stand in both these categories. This would help out my family as a whole; with me, being involved in sports where I am injured often, and having a father who owns a construction business.

I’m excited to hear that Obama and Biden plan on raising the minimum wage to $9.50 an hour by the year 2011. This is a way to promote the economy for the future of the youth. Prices of everyday material things are raising as we speak, and if we are to be stuck in the same minimum wage for the next ten years, then I find it impossible to keep up it. Another subject he plans to build on is the payment of sick days for employers. According to stats, half of all private sector workers have no paid sick days. That adds to the problem of low-paying jobs, and less than a one-fourth of employers receive any paid sick days. Obama wishes to require seven paid sick days per year.

I feel strongly that the war we are in needs to come to an end. We should focus on our economy, not the countries overseas. It is estimated that the U.S. will have spent over $2.7 trillion by the time it is over. Think of all the schools we could build, all the teachers we could hire, and all the scholarships we could give out. Obama and Biden plan on ending the war. But I support them in not stopping it all at once; they won’t just leave the Middle East the way it is, they plan on providing at least $2 billion dollars to expand their own services and to ensure the safety of the people.

Another issue I’m glad Obama plans on covering is Immigration. They want to keep the borders up and support more people, technology and foundation to protect it. He wishes to require the undocumented immigrants to pay a fine, learn English and send them back for an opportunity to become a citizen. They also plan to work with Mexico in hopes to promote the development of their economy and decrease the number of immigrants. This helps because our immigration bureaucracy is crushed and that prevents the people who have gotten things together and wish to become legal from getting the documents needed. They are then forced to wait years.

I really support Obama in his wishes to boost our economy. They are going to restore the fairness to the tax code, and they plan on providing workers with the tax relief they need. In addition to that he will simplify the tax fillings in order to give Americans a chance to do their taxes with out being in such a short time limit and under so much pressure. They also believe that large companies should not be getting billions of dollars in tax deductions for moving their operations overseas; we need to focus of the companies who are committed and support American workers. This all is another way to promote the economy and help out the youth in their future when they’re let out in the world to become adults.

Those are all the main reasons why I believe Barrack Obama would make an outstanding President. I support every one of his ideas and hope that they will turn out the way he wishes to. I have faith that our economy and the country as a whole will build up and become stronger as a community. His goals are high, yet attainable. Especially if we, America, work as one.
